Note from Editor: This is George Nelson's original greeting page, last updated in 2004. Although health issues forced George to stop maintaining the site or answering questions in early 2008, we have kept this page posted to give you an idea of just how friendly and open to suggestion George always was. We have replaced George's contact information with our own, however.
Hello to All,
Welcome to the world of early American electric Christmas lighting! My name is George Nelson, your host for a trip into Christmas Past. This web site presents, in chronological order, information about and examples of early twentieth century American Christmas lighting outfits from a collection of more than twenty five years. The presentation is a virtual museum of electric Yuletide lighting history, covering America's one true contribution to the tradition of the Christmas tree.
The earliest incarnation of this web site first hit the web in November of 1999, and was hosted on America Online. On March 3, 2001, the site was enlarged and improved, and moved to faster servers due to heavier traffic. Since then, there have been four major updates and revisions to the site. You are viewing the most recent, which debuted in November of 2004.
The collection is constantly growing and this site is always being updated, so for you frequent visitors, the most recent additions will be noted in a box at the top of the Table of Contents page. The information presented on these pages is as accurate as this collector believes possible, but please remember that as more information is discovered and research continues, changes will be inevitable. All updates and corrections will be noted on the Collector's Notebook page. If you believe errors have occurred or have more information to share, please, please e-mail the current webmaster HERE!
While the collection presented here is quite large, it does not include every lighting outfit ever produced during the years this web site covers. There were thousands of lighting outfits offered for sale during this time, and the collection is but a representation of the types of sets available to the public.
Please note that I am a collector only, and do not offer any of the lighting outfits pictured in the "museum" for sale. I am always glad to answer any questions you might have, but I do try to stay away from offering appraisals on the sets. Due to the volume of e-mails I receive on a daily basis, I ask that you please check the Frequently asked Questions page on the site, located HERE first. If you can't find the information you need, please feel free to e-mail me with your questions by using this LINK.
I sincerely hope you enjoy your visit!
