Post subject:  Twinkle-Glo Lites

Hello, everybody. Finally am getting the light box collection files reduced small enough to post. Thought I would share this one first. I thought this was an interesting set because it has flashers instead of flashing bulbs. This is a Glolite Twinkle-Glo Tree Lites set from 1955. It uses three Haftson flashers. One flasher controls three lamps, the other two control two lamps each. Normally don't buy window boxes but this box was in such good shape couldn't pass it up. Had to take the box apart and replace the window, (a note: don't throw away those junk boxes with good windows, they might fit another box). The biggest challenge was one of the flashers had a broken winding, which really isn't a surprise since the wire used becomes brittle with age. After repairing the winding the timing didn't match the other flashers. Had to open them up and reset the gap so all three had the same timing. A point of reference in case anyone needs it, the gap should be around 1/32inch with no current at winding. This set turned out very good. Box looks good. Used GE pastel lamps which look real good on a dimmer. This set is better left in a box than on a tree. Its not very practical. It's one of those, "Why did they make this?" products. Hope you like it.

Nice set Gary! Those sets are great for being able to use whatever lamps you want and they are fairly straight forward to repair if you are handy. I have a couple similar early C9 versions.

Gary, thanks for posting. I didn't even know they made these. I had the kind with the individual C-7 twinkly bulbs, and loved the fact the way they added life to the tree.
