Post subject:  Half of the Bubble Light tree doesn't work

A reader writes:

I need advise, ideas or suggestions from other Noma bubble light tree owners. I have a tree that lights up and then after about 1 hour, the lower half goes out. The top half of the bubble lights continue to work though. Anybody know what causes this or how to remedy it? Can the tree be rewired? Does anybody do that?

I am forwarding your question to my friend Fred Fox, who runs an online vintage Christmas decoration store on Etsy (called NoellKat). Fred knows a lot more about these than I do.

---------Fred's Response-----------------------------

Pam, that sounds more like a single bubble light issue than the tree wiring itself. The tree you describe is wired in two separate series circuits to one plug wire, that is why only half is going out on you. Have you tried swapping all the top half bubble lamps to the bottom to see if the issue continues? A break in the wiring on these usually doesn't respond in such a way as you describe. Could be a bad filament in one of the bubblers, a broken filament can connect and disconnect depending on temperature. Once hot re-break and once cooled re-connect. Fred
