Post subject:  Miniature Bubble Light tree?

A reader writes:

I am hoping you can help me. As a child, we had Noma bubble lights on the Christmas tree. My love for bubble lights continues. Visiting an antique mall, I found a small tree with miniature bubble lights. An incandescent bulb inside the tree activates the bubble lights. The tree came with a 25 watt bulb which is not activating the bubble lights. What is the proper size bulb for this type of bubble light? Do these type of lights fail? I was told it was working when brought into the shop.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Thanks for getting in touch. I have to apologize, though - I've never seen the kind of tree you're describing. Sometimes ceramic trees that have little plastic pieces you stick into holes on the trees are advertised as bubble light trees, but they don't really bubble.

A tree with multiple bubble lights lit by a single bulb would have to get pretty hot to activate all the bulbs at once. Like dangerously hot. Did they say the lights bubbled when it came in? If so, did they change the light bulb out?

Sorry, more questions than answers.

Did you snap a photo of the tree while you were there?

Thank you for getting back to me.
This is not a ceramic tree. It is made from the same materials as a c6 bubble light tree. The incandescent bulb sits in a ceramic base. The interior of the tree is metal. The ends of the bubble lights that receive the heat, protrude through the metal interior.
The owner of the shop said that it did work when brought in. She plugged it in, but I did not wait to see if it worked.
If you ever find information about the tree, I would love to hear from you.

Well, we've established that it isn't really a bubble light tree. My first guess was correct (except for the ceramic part). Hope you're not too disappointed. On the other hand, it would be interesting to know what the staff were eating, drinking, or smoking when they thought they saw the lights bubbling earlier. :-)
