Post subject:  Noma Blackout lights

Hello I hate to tell you this. I am an avid WW2 military collector and have a Noma lantern in the box. There are black out lights.

Thanks for getting in touch. Before and during WWII, NOMA was more of a manufacturer's cooperative than a single company, so different NOMA plants/companies did different things during the war. A LOT of them were converted to making electrical or electronic hardware that the forces needed.

A few of the companies that didn't have gov't contracts and couldn't get their hands on metal made things out of wood and cardboard just to have something to sell and keep their brand in the public's eye. (Lionel actually sold a non-working train made out of cardboard during the same era for the same reason.)

Generally the electrical or electronic parts that the NOMA companies/factories made for the military were NOT labeled NOMA, so those wooden toys and decorations are about the only products labeled NOMA from that era.

Sounds like your lamp may be one of the few military products that actually got a NOMA brand. I'd love to see a photo to add to that chapter. If you can reply to this e-mail and add one of more photos as attachments, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for the note - Paul
