To limit the forums to people who are actually interested in our subject matter and to reduce the flood of fake signups we get from scammers, spammers and trolls every holiday season, we have gone to a 4-step actual application process. This includes allowing applicants to enter their own information on the registration forums. plus some steps that scammers will never bother with, such as requiring at least one relevant post. Right now we have a manual signup since it's the best way to keep this forum safe from spammers and trolls. Our primary goal is to have a "safe" place for like-minded people to share information about electrical Christmas lights and decorations. For that reason, we ask for you to identify yourself when you sign up, although your real name, address, and e-mail will never be visible to other members. If you consider that intrusive, please recall that everyone ELSE signing up also has to demonstrate that he or she is a real person, too.
