Post subject:  Matchless Star Counter Display Tree

I wanted a different way to display my Matchless (Wonder) Stars other than the same old visca so called Matchless Star trees offered by Noma, Royal, ect. In my files I came across an advertisement from the Matchless Electric Co. offering dealers a counter display tree for the stars. It was four sided, with holes for a light string and stars. I believe it was made of cellotex, around a foot tall. The three front facing fence sections had the advertising. The left side stated, "Use Wonder Stars" and on the right side stated, " for Christmas Lights". Below that across the very bottom was, " The Matchless Electric Company, Chicago, Ill." The forward facing section also had the advertising on it so it could be read complete looking from the right or the left side. The ad had a description of the colors which made it easier to paint mine. I used half inch plywood about 24 inches tall. The tree is two pieces with a half lap joint in the middle to slide the sections together. The original tree was the same cross shape as the fence, but I made mine to show looking face on. It took a lot of cutting, filing, and sanding, then painting, but it turned out real nice. The pictures don't do it justice. The fence tips and the tree branches are painted with Snow Tex and sprinkled with Diamond Dust to make the snow sparkle. I have not been able to find another ad for the tree, or seen a tree at any shows or shops. Somewhere there must have been some around. So, there is something to look for when shop and sale hunting, if any have survived. Wouldn't that be a find!
