I'm Paul Race; I grew up with C6 lights, Midnight Masses in Latin, 3-channel television, the Weavers and Dave Brubeck on the old Firestone stereo, lead icicles on the Christmas tree, Woolworth's plaster nativity figures, and a love of all things Christmas. As builder and proprietor of the FamilyChristmasOnline.com web page, I had gotten to know George Nelson briefly, so when his site went down I realized what a loss it would be to the whole Christmas collectors' community if it stayed down.
Several friends helped me restore it and have been helping me ever since, plus I've made new friends. You'll meet some of them on this forum.

Thanks in advance to all the friends I havent really met yet who I know will come up with new questions, better answers, etc. that I ever could on my own.

I put this topic up because some one asked me to. Okay, it's your turn. Who's next?

I'm Mark Podmore and I currently reside in Lexington, SC. I was born in Staten Island, NY, but we moved to Charleston, SC, when I was young.

I have many fond memories of "helping" my father decorate the Christmas tree and outside of the house. Dad would put a huge blow mold Santa & reindeer on the roof and C-9 lights around the eaves of the house as well as around the windows. In each window there would be an 8-light C-6 candolier and cellophane wreaths. There would be two Christmas trees indoors: one in the formal living room and one in the family room of our ranch house. I always had a two foot tall plastic tree in my bedroom complete with miniature lights. There was an aluminum tree with color wheel in the glassed-in porch.

In 2003, I moved into a historic home in Columbia, SC, and one of my neighbors gave me a C-6 Noma bubble light, which started my quest to locate many vintage Christmas lights. I started collecting bubble light trees and restoring many vintage Christmas decorations. I have uploaded lots of photos of my treasures on Flickr and also full-size scans of many Christmas decoration catalogs: Noma, Paramount, Glolite, Raylite, Royal, etc. Through these catalogs, I have learned much about vintage Christmas decorations! I hope to share my knowledge with you all.

I recently renewed my membership to the Golden Glow of Christmas Past.

Who am I?, hmmm, well my name is Fred Fox. I guess I am a slightly eccentric (just since the day I was born) long time collector of a number of things but Christmas lighting has always been on the top of my lists. My early Christmas light collecting interests were focused mainly on outdoor displays, both home and commercial. I was a strange kid I guess, I was consumed by collecting interests from as early as I can recall, typical kid interests were not my thing. I mean, what kid do you know that would take Christmas lights for 'show n tell' to school? I first started collecting when I was was old enough to be trusted to hold a light bulb in my hand without falling down and breaking it. Wasn't lucky enough to have been born into a family who were big Christmas decorators, so looked to my next door neighbor to fulfill my early passion. They were an older couple who loved to decorate, the house was covered with a mix of old bulbs, socket sets and on each window my all time favorite Christmas collectable, Royal Electric "Dandy Canes". As the month of December approached, I used to listen for the rattle of their extension ladder and I was outside like a shot to offer my services, such as they were at age 6 or 7, in exchange for all the burnt out light bulbs. From there, swap meets, thrift stores and antique shops have had to do. These venues have allowed me to make some great in person contacts through which I have acquired some really great items for my collection as well as some really great items for me to pass along to others through my past and present selling venues.

Fred,

SO glad to have you on board. Thanks for all the help with reader questions over the years. I know you don't like to toot your own horn, but other members will be glad to know that you have saved a lot of stuff out of other folks' attics and make it available for the next generation on Noel Kat:
