JEWEL- "Fireplace Box " Light Set

Post by gary-g »

Here is a nice series set from JEWEL (DEPENDABLE ELECTRIC MFG. CO.) also makers of GLEEM Lights. "The Best Set In The House" Probably from the late 50's or early 60's since the address has a city code instead of the traditional zip code starting in 1963. The instructions claim that you can hook up to ten sets,80 lamps, instead of the traditional six sets,48 lamps, together on one outlet. Sounds like an advertising ploy to me. These show up for sale occasionally usually with the logs or the stockings ripped off. This set was in really good condition. It even had the window intact, with only a few tears in the flaps. The box is good and sturdy. The only, what I would consider, cheap flaw, is the perforated cover hinge, instead of a pressed flap hinge. The cover almost falls off-which it did. This set is also made in C-9. Not sure about C-7. I fitted it with red and orange Westinghouse lamps for more of a fireplace look. Not sure if the string is original. Looks good, so I left it in. Regular pictures didn't really do the set justice, so I took some lighted. Much better. A nice set with really novel graphics. MERRY CHRISTMAS. gary.
