Here is a set that isn't found very often. It is made by TISCO ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS. I haven't been able to find out much about the company so far. Have done trademark and patent searches without any luck, so I am going to assume it is from the 50's. The set uses standard vinyl covered wire with Gilbert ends. What is unusual, are the sockets. As can be seen from the pictures, they are round. They are two piece with very thick molded threads inside. There are no brass contact strips to break off, or get bent and short out. Instead the lamp screws directly against the wire. Inside the socket the wire is stripped and tinned about three eights of an inch, and one wire is the center contact in the bottom, and the other is the side contact. The sockets have the wires fitted inside, and the two pieces are pushed together, and the wires are held tight. Two knurled pins are inserted from the bottom to hold the socket and branch clip together. It is a pretty good idea, but when I took a socket apart in a junk string, the wire was quite brittle ,and started to break. I did notice a broken strand here and there in some of the other sockets, but considering how many times lights were screwed in and out over the years, they held up well. Just don't take them apart. There is also a little info sheet included with the set telling why it is so good. The box says indoor and outdoor, but the inside says indoor only. Makes me wonder if there was a c-9 set using the same box, although I have never seen one.
