Monowatt-Cheer-i-Lights Box

Post by gary-g »

This box is interesting in that it has, what amounts to, an advertising for the box maker, The Robert Gair Co. It is a Tinsley Display Box. You would think that tinsley refers to Christmas tinsel even though the spelling is different, since it is a Christmas light box. No. It turns out Tinsley is the name of the person that applied for the patent. Seems Robert Gair was quite a ingenious person. In the late 1800's he manufactured the first paper bag with a square bottom. The paper grocery bag. Later he developed a machine for the manufacture of folding boxes. With a series of dies and flexible blades it would cut and crease the cardboard blanks a group at a time.Eventually the folded boxes would become the staple for packaging food. The National Biscuit Company (NABISCO) was one of the first clients. From Christmas Light boxes to cracker boxes. Quite the story. I have also included a copy of the original patent app. Had to take a picture if it. Scanner is on the fritz, but the picture is viewable.
